What it protects
This utility patent covers the way the 400e loads each round. A flexible bucking sits in a passage next to the loading chamber, and a spring coiled around the barrel presses against it. Fastening the barrel to the housing compresses that spring, so the bucking is held under spring pressure as ammunition moves from the chamber into the barrel.
