Operation

The Junior uses a single pump pneumatic power plant. The air tube is completely pressurized with a single pump and reaches a maximum velocity of 350 FPS. Its size, automatic safety, and lower velocity make it a great all-round practice gun for new or young shooters.

Materials

The Junior is cut from the same cloth as The 1866 with the main difference in materials being that the Junior’s pump arm is made of reinforced nylon resin. The golden receiver is made of a durable ABS plastic and gets its mirror glossy finish through electroplating. The 15" barrel is made of carbon steel and nestled inside a steel barrel shroud.

Style

The Junior, like The 1866, was inspired by the classic, lever-action repeaters of the American West. It’s a cowboy air rifle, plain and simple.

1866 Junior & Rosie FAQ

Answers to common questions about the Barra 1866 Junior and Rosie youth BB and pellet rifles.

Is the 1866 Junior good for kids?

Yes. The Junior and Rosie are the youth-sized versions of the Barra 1866, built for new and young shooters with a smaller size, automatic safety and lower velocity. The manual lists them for ages 10 and up, with adult supervision required.

What is the difference between the Junior and the Rosie?

They're the same youth rifle in different finishes: the Junior has a gold receiver and the Rosie has a rose gold receiver. Both are 5 inches shorter overall than the full-size 1866.

Can the Junior and Rosie shoot BBs and pellets?

Yes. They shoot .177 steel BBs, with a 50-shot BB capacity, and .177 pellets loaded one at a time.

How fast does the 1866 Junior shoot?

The Junior and Rosie reach a maximum of 350 FPS.

How many times do you pump the Junior?

Just once. The single pump fully pressurizes the air tube, and the manual warns never to pump more than one time. Open the bolt first, since a built-in safety won't let it pump with the bolt closed.

How does the safety work on the Junior and Rosie?

The safety is built into the hammer. With the hammer forward the rifle is on SAFE; cock the hammer back so the red dot shows to set it to FIRE.

What are the Junior and Rosie made of?

The receiver is ABS plastic with an electroplated mirror finish, the pump arm is reinforced nylon resin, and the carbon steel barrel sits inside a steel barrel shroud.

What warranty comes with it?

It's covered by Barra's 1-year limited warranty from the date of purchase, which covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Register your airgun with the Warranty Registration Form, and contact help@barraairguns.com if you have an issue.
