250z .22 vs .25 cal

  • Considering one or the other. Mostly to be used for small game (coyotes in backyard, racoons, skunks, squirrels, etc)

What isthe effective range? Reviews test out to 50 yds.... I'm not looking for a500yd air rifle (LOL) but wondering what the realistic max range is.

Also, trying to decide .22 or .25. Anyone hassome pro/con comparisons?

    Thanks in advance.

  • If you're going to shoot prey such as squirrels or birds get a 22. If you shoot larger animals such as groundhogs get a 25. Coyotes use a 30 caliber.

  • @Miles E Crawford

I know this post is from last year, just wondering what you decided on.

I have the .25 cal. I'm killing squirrels from 25 to 75 yards with 33 gr domed pellets. Haven't recovered a pellet yet from any of them.
I wouldn't hesitate to take a head shot on a coyote or even a pig with it. I'll however switch to 33 gr hollow point slugs for them.
I do have to make scope adjustments when I switch.
Slugs hit about an inch and a half to the upper left, somewhere between 10 and 11 o'clock out of my 250 z.

I have shot the slugs out to 100 yards hitting 2" round steel knock over targets, but I'd never shoot at a Yote or pig at that distance.
